Instagram went live with their 3.0 update. While the latest update did not include any fancy new filters , it offers plenty of new and revised features to keep users busy.
Member profiles, hashtag and location pages and the Explore tag, all received a much-needed revamp and the design now has a more polished finish to it. The peeps at Instagram clearly believe that size matters, as photo grids and text boxes when entering captions have been supersized.
One of the issues I had with the older version was the “load more” button; it gets cumbersome and buggy real fast. Which is why I love that they finally enabled infinite scrolling—I can creep much more efficiently now!
The most robust upgrade with the 3.0 version is cool feature called Photo Maps. Participation is completely optional, but if enabled, all geotagged photos are placed unto an interactive map. Users also have the option to explore other users’ Photo Maps as well. “There’s something really powerful in exploring who someone is on Instagram through a geo versus a time display,” said Kevin Systrom, company CEO.
Insta-addicts with privacy concerns need not worry as each new photograph will have to be approved before it is added unto the Photo Map. “Users should feel very confident that we’re going to great lengths to make sure they feel safe on Instagram and put control of data into their hands,” Systrom added.
